What does the Bible says about the Bible? Part 2.

Image
To be honest, I haven't thought about how the Bible 'came' to us. I do remember what 2 Tim 3:16 says... and I kind of have this image of Moses bringing down a stone tablet.. that was it.  (KJV) All scripture  is  given by inspiration of God, and  is  profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:   (NLT) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. But later I learned about the 'human side' of the story, and realized I had a fantasy version of mythical view which weakened the true reality of how bible came into existence.  If you have a mind picture like this picture below...  from NBC TV show  < Heroes > ...be prepared for some biblical realism. Yup. This is the 'red pill or blue pill' kind of moment for the Christians. (It's a Matrix metaphor)  The Mentioning of

The words matters because God matters

Words matters If we are going to talk about the Word of God, there is something else we need to talk about as well. It’s the word WORD itself.  I am not sure if you ever written a business contract, but without setting the definition correctly, it will surely leave lots of possible disputes. And if you forget to read the fine prints on any documents before you sign, there may come a day that you regret.    So, in the business contract, it is usual to have a section called the definition, to set out the terms used in the documents, for clear communication.  The definition matters   Not every word has a single universal definition. The Law,   for example, could mean the Mosaic Law in the Bible, or the laws of a country or the laws of physics discovered by scientists like Issac Newton; or a law of arithmetic in mathematics; or the law of logics.  While the laws of a country may change over time, the other scientific laws in nature(like the law of gravity) seem to stay. Why? Because this k

What does the Bible say about the Bible? Part 1

I am not writing as an authoritative figure in any field. I am only a person with an average IQ but with not-so-average number of languages I can use. And I have some experiences as an interpreter and a translator when serving in Air Force, and as a freelancer before I landed on current work place where I have worked for several years. I am sharing my train of thought or thought experiment to investigate the grand truth claim of KJV-Only-ism. So in the end of this journey, I either become your fellow KJV-onlyist who gets enlightened, or I find something that KJV onlyist misunderstood or couldn't accept. #1 What does the most important figure in the Bible say about the Bible? Well, I think the most important figure is Jesus. So, let me start with what he said about the Bible. I was reading the Bible this morning, and I wasn’t searching for anything. I just wanted to read something to my 125th day year old baby girl sitting on my laps this morning. And I opened the Bible, and John

Truth? What is Truth?

Dear fellow pursuer of the Truth #1  I have a habit of thinking about a third choice when I am presented with two.  Because usually, the wise choice is usually neither of the extreme. I am not saying 'middle-way' is always the truth, but when dealing with the truth, the radical claim should be supported with enough evidence.  It was my life-time's goal to create something to help my atheistic friends consider the possibility they deny. And instead of choosing between 'what one group claims' and 'what the other group claims', I wanted to ask my friends to start the journey themselves, but rarely, the people lacking the needs in their peaceful time are likely to start that seemingly boring research.  When people lack the motive to pursue the truth, I think the least I can do is to present a data for comparison. If people concludes differently based on the same data, it is either one side is misinterpreting the data; or the data itself has the nature of multi-d

A peaceful greeting and an invitation to the quest for the Truth

A peaceful greeting and an invitation to the quest for the Truth I want to start by pointing out that I am not here to attack or disdain the believers of the KJV-Onlyism, nor the Churches which adopted this view which many people consider to be, if not a conspiracy, a controversy. As a fellow follower of the Truth and the Wisdom incarnated, I merely want to share my journey and the findings how KJV-onlyism made sense to the people. And by tracking down the history and the logical consistency of the arguments, I wanted to see which makes more sense. I wanted to see what could be the possible misunderstandings that may have led its believers to their unique conclusion. I can respect an individual belief towards the certain understanding of the part of the Bible which may differ due to the background of personal belief and preferences. But if your belief is the very radical one that disqualifies others’ beliefs on the history of the Bible and its teaching? I have to ask you if you h
